People often ask me what the easiest way is to improve their writing, and they are generally surprised to learn that the solution involves no actual writing. In my experience writing, reading, and editing content, I’ve noticed that people often don’t even read their own work. I don’t understand the logic. Why dedicate all of your time dressing up for an important event only to forget to look in the mirror and notice you have a huge stain on your shirt?
Editing helps you make your point more concisely, effectively, and persuasively. It also enhances your credibility because your content will inevitably be cleaner and easier to follow. That is why the most effective way to improve your writing is to spend more time learning to edit and actually editing.
Drafting is only one component of the entire writing process. Although drafting is incredibly important, it is a mistake to rely exclusively on drafting. Editing is one of the most effective and easy-to-use tools at your disposal. It’s generally a good idea to take a look in the mirror before you leave the house!
