Estate Planning

On the one hand, without having a legal or tax background, it is problematic for an individual to effectively plan an estate.

On the other hand, it is nearly impossible for a professional with a legal background to plan an estate without in-depth knowledge of a client’s goals, needs and overall family and financial situation.

We maintain this delicate balance when drafting a client’s estate plan and will craft a specialized course of action for family values, using our experience to keep the plan affordable.

DO I NEED A WILL?  HOW DO I PROTECT MY ASSETS?

Chapter 852 of the Wisconsin Statutes outlines the rules for intestate succession.  When someone dies without a valid will, which is known as intestacy, State law determines how the decedent’s net estate will be disposed of.  For example, if the decedent has a surviving spouse, Wisconsin law states the decedent’s net estate would pass to the spouse.  However, as your family grows, dying without a will becomes more complicated.  If you don’t want the State determining where your assets end up after your death, you should plan ahead.
